Writing, Reading, and All Things in Between [Nov. 11th, 2009|12:33 pm]

[music |Orbital]

Had some down time at work yesterday and ended up writing one of the funnest "fight" scenes I've ever written. It takes place in broad daylight, in the middle of a city street, and all attacks are done covertly so that none of the citizens know what is going on. So much fun to write. It's for my work in progress, which to date still has no title. I think I'm getting close to ending it, though. It's going to need a sequel, though, perhaps a couple. A lot more has taken place than I had originally planned on.

Last night was a fun impromptu gathering, which included drinking, watching stupid-silly YouTube videos, and homemade chocolate chip cookies. Could've used that time to be productive, but hey, you gotta have a little fun now and again, right? And cookies. COOKIES. 'Nuff said.

Tonight will be another night in the studio working away on Bardsworth. I have other projects I really need to work on, so I hope I can finish Bardsworth quickly. So much to do, so little time. What else is new?

Oh, you know what's new? The new season of Metalocalypse. And it's BRUTAL! First episode already blew me away. And this season they have 30 minute episodes rather than 15 minute ones! So awesome. I just have to get other people into it so I have people to watch it with (Katie won't because of the level of disgusting violence).

Almost lunch time. I wonder if I can finally finish Endymion by Dan Simmons today. Then I only have one book left in the Hyperion series. Seriously, I've said this over and over, but if you are into science fiction, pick up the Hyperion books and read them. I've never been this fanatical over a series before. Well, okay, maybe back when I first read the Dragonlance books, but I still think this is different.

On the agenda for this afternoon: more coffee.

So Many Boxes!!! [Nov. 9th, 2009|11:32 am]

[mood | bored]

Last week is over, and for that I'm happy. Most of the boxes have either been unpacked, set aside out of the way for future sorting-through, or stored in the basement. Our rooms are still messy as we continue to organize things, but the living is at least accessible now for relaxation.

Sunday morning I did up one of my famous breakfasts. For some reason I really love cooking breakfast (even though I'm not a morning person), although technically by the time we ate it was noon (a series of unfortunate events leading to that). I love cooking, especially when I get to create something of my own. I do follow recipes, but being the control freak I am I usually stick to doing my own thing. If you've never had my breakfast potatoes, you will need coerce me into cooking you breakfast (it won't take much to convince me, I can promise you that).

The creative endeavors of this past weekend didn't pan out quite the way I wanted them to. Katie and I are heading to the studio tonight to catch up on the things that we didn't get to. At least I finished Monday's Bardsworth strip in time.

On that subject, because of the craziness of moving and unpacking and trying not to go completely insane, I missed Bardsworth's fourth anniversary on Saturday, the 7th. I've been doing Bardsworth for four years. Four. It's absolutely crazy (especially when I realize that only about 1/4 of the story has been told).

And on an unrelated note, The Venture Brothers is still friggin' awesome.

The Enigma That is Pete [Nov. 6th, 2009|04:39 pm]

[mood | cheerful]

My personality tears asunder any kind of stereotypical categorization. In the same day I've read and laughed at potty-humor comics, and read about Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. I participated in back-and-forth emails that included goofy and tasteless images, and read up on and posted about political issues. I rocked out to death metal and black metal on Pandora, and got giddy over looking at fairy paraphernalia.

How do I classify myself? As someone who loves and enjoys all aspects of life.

Getting Political Again [Nov. 5th, 2009|10:35 am]

[mood | annoyed]

From this article:

The bill would require cuts in greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent over the next decade from 2005 levels. But Republicans warned the bill would leave consumers with higher energy bills.

"This would be the largest tax increase in the history of America," Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., one of the seven committee Republicans, told Fox News. "I can only conclude that they don't want the public to know how much money this thing is going to cost."

But continually raising gas and oil prices, which doesn't help the environment at all, is okay with the public? Hmm, well, considering how many idiots I've seen out there with gas-guzzling SUVs and Hummers, I'm guessing it is.

While you're at it, Conservatives, why don't you try repealing the laws that granted blacks civil rights? Or women for that matter. Oh, what's that? The leader for the National Organization for Marriage is a woman? Well, I'm sure she'll be happy to give up any rights she has to make sure that everything is balanced and fair. Right?

Surrounded by Boxes Once Again [Nov. 3rd, 2009|10:50 am]

[music |To My Boy]

So the move is finally over, after some frustrating and stressful moments that I won't go into detail about here. The last bit of annoyingness has been problems with the electricity in the house, leaving us without lights in the bathroom and the kitchen. That should be resolved today by the time Katie and I get home. But other than that, we're happy to moved in, and we're in the process of unpacking. It's weird, because a good chunk of the boxes are those boxes that we packed up before we left for California and stored at either my parents' house or Katie's mom's house. So we're unpacking things we haven't seen in over 4 years!

The area is not too bad. It's kind of like where Katie and I lived in Long Beach, where if you go one way it's a nice area, and if you go the other way... well, you try not to go the other way. But we're within walking distance of stuff, and Durand Eastman park is close by. So I think it'll be a nice place to live for a while.

Because of all the unpacking this week, Katie and I will be spending the majority of Saturday in our "studio" working on art projects. I've pretty much resolved that, in conjunction with my previous post about NaNoWriMo, to crank out as many Bardsworth strips as I can do. It's a pretty tough goal to reach, since I have work to do before Steel City con in December, but I feel that I owe it to myself to try to get a little ahead.

Always keepin' busy.

Just Can't Tell Anymore [Nov. 2nd, 2009|09:06 am]

[mood | confused]

You know, it's getting to the point where I can't tell if people are being sarcastic, or if they're just bugfuck insane.

Reagan gave us a dire warning about socialized medicine almost 50 years ago, or its newest euphemism, nationalized healthcare. When are people going to wake up and realize that all this push for healthcare reform is not about healthcare? Never, I guess. Why do you think Obama is
pushing something we’ve already told him we don’t want? Duh! If you still think it’s about healthcare, and the Democrat party is all concerned about your health, I say, “Wake up you fools!” If this healthcare bill ever passes, they’ll own you. Socialized medicine is not about medicine and it never has been. It’s Obama’s first step toward total rule of America and total rule of your life by every Democrat in the federal government. It’s about control over everything in your life, where you live, what you drive, what you eat, how much you weigh, and when you die. They can even determine if you are ever born at all. As Ronald Reagan inferred in his 1961 warning speech, the door to socialist domination is through nationalized healthcare, and if we open that door even a little bit, we lose. Remember, you heard it here first. - Taken from Huffingtonpost.com

Ready to Hibernate [Oct. 29th, 2009|09:44 am]

[music |The Arcade Fire]

This week is going to kill me. It's already started to. Katie has said several times that I look like crap. Between the late nights of getting our artwork ready for tonight, the stressing about the move this weekend, and the rain and gloom, I'm ready to collapse and sleep for several days.

The crazy thing is that once the dust settles a bit, I have to immediately start preparing for Steel City Con in Pittsburgh at the beginning of December. Nope, it never ends.

Good things are coming, though. I'm sure the event tonight will be good (even if it's not really our scene; it's a club party), and the potential is there that someone will at least buy some prints from us. And of course, once the move is made this weekend, we will finally have some more space and be able to unpack our boxes. Of course, we'll probably be moving AGAIN within a year, but I'm trying not to think about that.

Katie is settling in well at her new job it seems. I stopped up to the office to meet some of her coworkers and check the place out. I'm a bit jealous because it's much nicer than any office I've ever worked in. But then, I'm not really a nice office kind of guy (as I sit here at work in my Guinness t-shirt and crappy jeans).

Well, wish us luck tonight and this weekend!
